Empower Your Inbox: How To Say No In The Workplace

virtual Thursday October 31 @ 1 pm ET

Why is it crucial for graphic designers to master the art of saying no in their professional lives? Radim Malinic, author of The Mindful Creative, will discuss how to understand and deal with the highs and lows of creative life, career or business. Join us on the afternoon of Halloween for a spooky but necessary conversation, costumes are encouraged!

About Radim Malinic

Living and working in Southwest London in the UK, Radim runs Brand Nu Studio, an award-winning branding and creative studio as well as Brand Nu Books, an independent publishing imprint. Before finding his calling in the creative industry, Czech-born Radim was an ice hockey player, a bassist in death metal bands, an indie DJ, a music journalist and a student of Economics and Business Management. In 2000, Radim moved to the UK to explore the expansive music scene, only to develop an even greater interest in art and graphic design. Since then his eclectic interests have seen him working with some of the biggest brands, companies and bands in the world. These clients have included Harry Potter, London Film Museum, Decleor, Adidas, Dolby, WWF and USAID. He is also a regular keynote speaker, guest lecturer and brand ambassador. In 2023, Malinic released two books. The first title, Creativity for Sale, offers advice on starting and growing creative careers and businesses. The second, Mindful Creative, addresses the highs and lows of creative life, careers and businesses. Both titles provide a proven and tested framework for finding success in your career and with systems to avoid burnout, stress and negative impact.

Issues Magazine Shop

Nicola is an independent art director and graphic designer, who specializes in editorial design. She’s obsessed with magazines, so much so that she opened Issues Magazine Shop, a retailer of independent magazines in July 2022. Her work has been internationally recognized by the D&AD, the Society of Publication Designers and the National Magazine Awards, among others. Nicola is also the co-founder of The Scaries Project, an artistic exploration of the emotional realities of being creative, and a part-time design educator.

Elyse Maxwell RGD

Patch Design

Elyse is a Senior Graphic Designer and Project Manager at Patch Design. From developing comprehensive branding systems to designing packaging and print materials, she enjoys working directly with clients to find solutions to their challenges. Elyse considers herself a life-long student with a bachelors degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design and a diploma in Marketing from McMaster University.

She relaxes by designing silly t-shirts, exploring the Niagara region, and adding to her towering book collection.

Julian Brown

ON THE CHASE! Motion Design

Julian Brown is ON THE CHASE! Julian creates ‘motion-first’ brands and content for smart clients (Sport Chek, University of Toronto, Cineplex, World Wildlife Fund). His motion design & branding projects have been awarded by Graphis, The Webbys, Adobe and many more. Julian is a speaker on motion design, running a solo studio, and, sometimes, telling people why their offices f*cking suck. He serves as a VP on the Board of Directors for RGD, Canada’s largest design association. Julian is a York/Sheridan Toronto alumni, a world traveller, and this one time he starred alongside his dog in a TV ad for pet food. It was adorable.
